Create a task
Who this is for: Anyone assigning work to themselves or a teammate, tied to a contract or other record
Time to complete: 1–2 minutes
Tasks in CLX are always tied to a parent record — a contract, an organization, a person. You start by picking the type of task and the parent, then fill in the assignment details.
Steps
1. Click + New Task
From the Tasks page, click + New Task in the top-right.
2. The New Task drawer opens
A blank drawer slides in from the right with the title New Task.

3. Pick the Task Type
Choose from the Task Type dropdown. Options come from your tenant’s setup — common types include Approval, Contract Review, Decision, Contract Expiration, and others your admin has configured.
Required fields are marked with a red asterisk.
4. Pick the Parent Record
Choose Parent Record Type (Contract, Organization, Person, etc.) — this filters the Record Type combobox below it. Type to search the available records by name or number.
5. Assign the task
Use the Assigned To section to pick who is responsible. You can assign to:
Users — specific people
Roles — anyone in a role (e.g., Legal Reviewer)
Departments — anyone in a department
The Assigned By section captures who is requesting the task — useful when you’re delegating on someone else’s behalf.
6. Set the deadline and notes
Organization Ownership — pre-populated from your org; change if you’re creating on behalf of another business unit
Due Date — pick from the calendar or type a date
Notes — free-text explanation of what needs to happen (visible to assignees)
7. Set Completion Notes Required (optional)
Toggle Completion Notes Required on (top-right of the drawer) if the assignee must write a note when they complete the task. Once the task is created, this setting is locked — you can only set it on creation.
8. Save
Click Create in the bottom-right of the drawer. CLX creates the task, notifies the assignee(s), and adds it to their task lists. Click Cancel (or X / Escape) to back out without saving.
Tips
A task without a parent record is invalid — every task lives under a contract, org, or person.
For one-off requests, Manual is usually the best way to create a task. Approval and Decision types are usually generated by workflows, but can also be created ad hawk.
If you assign to a Department or Role, anyone in that group can pick the task up. The first to act takes ownership.
If the + New Task button is missing or grayed out, you’re a read-only user — talk to your admin about task-create permission.
