Preview a Document

How to preview a document

Written by Sara Doutt

Who this is for: Anyone who needs to read a contract document without downloading it,

Time to complete: 30 seconds

CLX has a built-in document preview that renders PDFs, Word docs, and images inline. You don’t need to download the file to read it, copy a clause, or check a signature.

Steps

1. Open the contract’s Related Documents

From the contract detail page, scroll to the Related Documents card. Each row is a document.

2. Click the document row

Click anywhere on a document row — the name, the version, the date. The Document Preview drawer slides in from the right.

The drawer shows:

  • The document name and version at the top

  • The rendered document in the center pane

  • Page navigation and zoom controls along the top or bottom of the viewer

  • Action buttons for Download, Print, and (where allowed) Edit

3. Navigate through the document

Use the page arrows or type a page number to jump around. Scroll to move line by line. Use the zoom controls to fit-to-width or zoom in on a clause.

4. Close the preview

Click the X in the top-right of the drawer, press Escape, or click outside the drawer to close it. You’ll land back on the contract detail page with your scroll position preserved.

Tips

  • The preview works for PDF, DOC, DOCX, and common image formats. Less common formats (like TIFF scans) may render as an image without selectable text.

  • For long contracts, use the page number field to jump instead of scrolling — it’s much faster.

  • If the preview is blank or shows an error, the file may be corrupt or password-protected. Download it and open in its native application to check.

  • You can open multiple documents one after another without leaving the contract page — close one drawer, click the next row.
